Marc Coma to Ride the Baja 500!
Marc Coma, the three-time Dakar Rally champion, has announced he will take part in the Baja 500 in Ensenada, Mexico on June 2nd, 2012. Coma participated in the 2006 Baja Nevada 1000 as teammate to Kellon Walch, but this with be the first ride of his career in the 500. So far this season the KTM rider has been a powerhouse in the Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, running a flawless season with two consecutive overall wins.
“The idea of one day participating in this rally has always excited me,” said Coma. “This is an event that isn’t so well known in Europe, but it is one of the most important off-road challenges around. I don’t want to let another opportunity like this go to waste. After so many seasons riding I am spurred on by the desire to do new things, and an event like this is hugely motivating.”
Coma is already a dominant figure in the world of off-road endurance racing and stands to extend his prestige in the sport with a good showing in the American race. The Baja 500 has been running for over 40 years and is famed in both North and South America.
