First off, your travel blogs are very inspirational. I’m working on making this dream a reality but first, What are your thoughts about the performance of your ktm thumper in South america?

    • Reno,

Thanks for your kind comment. We hope you are able to make your dream a reality.

As far as the KTM 640A pictured above goes, it performed flawlessly (throughout all of Alaska and the Canadian Yukon). That said, this particular model is a thumper in the truest sense. You could feel that single cylinder working at all times. It was not unbearable by any stretch of the imagination, but it was noticeable. The oversize fuel tank was excellent and its ability to carry gear was great as well.

My biggest concern is the availability of parts/service for this model bike. It has been discontinued for quite some time, and when in a remote area, coming across replacement parts (if necessary) could be difficult. It’s just something to think about.

      Thanks for your comment!
